UNCLE JOS PAINTINGS

ARMAND has a large number of remarkable paintings, the so-called Nonkel Jos paintings. These are the collection of the Fleming Gert Van Mol, who twenty years ago started collecting, at first sight, meaningless house-garden and kitchen paintings by Flemish amateur landscape painters. He called these paintings 'Nonkel Jos' paintings with the explanation, that in the foreseeable future all Nonkel Joses would have disappeared, but also all Flemish landscapes they painted. The collection ARMAND was able to acquire thus offers an illuminating and even moving insight into how Flanders has changed over the last 100 years.
